Establishing Your Value: Why Payment and Advocacy Matter


This presentation will provide an overview of payment services and advocacy work both at the DPG and Academy level. The change from a reimbursement model to a value-based payment system will be discussed as well as how to best identify and utilize the legislative resources that are available. The presentation will highlight opportunities we have as members to advocate for our professions and the ways in which this affects our roles as RDNs in all areas of practice.

Amanda is the owner of Nutrition Perspective, LLC a private practice in New Jersey serving people with diabetes, eating disorders and cardiometabolic conditions with a focus on simplifying management and improving relationships with food.  Amanda is also a certified pump and continuous glucose monitor trainer.   She is passionate about helping people with diabetes and has been fortunate to speak on this topic both nationally and internationally.

Prior to having her own practice, Amanda gained a wealth of experience working in diabetes at Columbia University in New York and Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.



Jason RobertsJason Roberts, RDN, LD, CDCES, FAND

Jason is an outpatient dietitian with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is honored to work with our nation’s heroes to help them meet their nutrition and health goals, including those related to the management of diabetes. He is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist who is motivated by connecting patients to the services they deserve. Before serving as the Nutrition Services Payment Specialist with the Diabetes DPG, Jason served as affiliate president of the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics during the 2018-2019 membership year.

2. Explain the change to value-based payment.
3. Identify the 4 key critical times to refer to RDN services
4. Understand their role in policy advocacy and how to implement into practice.
