    Wendy Bazilian, DrPH, MA, RDN

    Wendy Bazilian is a writer, educator, food enthusiast, award-winning journalist, and host of the 1,000 Waking Minutes podcast. She graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. from Tufts University, received her M.A. from UC, San Diego, and completed her Doctorate in Public Health and Nutrition at Loma Linda University summa cum laude, where she was awarded the prestigious Chancellor’s Award, the top university honor. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist and ACSM-Certified Exercise Physiologist. She is author of Eat Clean, Stay Lean series (Rodale), The SuperFoodsRx Diet (Rodale), and contributor to James Beard- and IACP-nominated Golden Door Cooks at Home, and New York Times-bestseller SuperFoodsRx. Wendy maintains a private practice with individuals from CEOs, artists, and actors, to professional athletes, parents and children seeking to improve their nutrition and health. Wendy is an expert consultant to the spa industry, to food and commodity groups, and to the healthcare industry. Wendy is on the Board of Directors for the California Academy Foundation, and is an active advocate for students and others pursuing scholarships, fellowships, research and educational grants, internships, and mentoring. She was Nutrition Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 and was awarded the 2024 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Distinguished Lecture Award “in recognition of [her] exemplary career and remarkable contributions to the nutrition and dietetics profession.” A frequent nutrition and wellness presenter at scientific, medical, corporate, culinary and public conferences and festivals, her expertise and writing are featured in various national print and digital media.     This webinar will introduce strategies for building food and nutrition literacy skills and applying these techniques within Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to improve dietary resilience and patient outcomes. It will focus on the importance of food literacy in promoting sustainable and accessible eating habits, particularly for individuals managing diabetes while considering their food security level. Case studies will be used to engage the audience and provide RDs with practical strategies to help patients manage their diabetes while navigating their unique food environments.

    Sadé Meeks, MS, RDN, LDN

    Sadé Meeks, MS, RD, is a writer, food activist, Registered Dietitian, and natural storyteller from Jackson, MS. Meeks holds a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts from Mississippi University for Women and a master’s degree in Nutritional Science from California State University, Los Angeles. Her nutrition expertise has been featured in Reader's Digest, MSN, Yahoo News, and Healthline Media- where she served as a Medical reviewer for three years. Meeks currently serves as the training and engagement lead for the country's largest telehealth network for dietitians. In her role, she trains other Registered Dietitians on how to provide culturally competent care to many low-income and minority populations.  

    Meeks is the Founder and Executive Director of Growing Resilience in the South (GRITS Inc.) and an adjunct professor at Purchase College in New York, where she teaches the course Food for Thought. She is also the co-author of Freedom for Life, a cookbook highlighting Southern food with diabetes-friendly recipes. Meeks directed and produced the Food as a Resistance documentary and an accompanying docuseries featuring prominent authors like James Beard Award winner Psyche Williams-Forson and renowned culinary historian Dr. Jessica B. Harris. She was awarded the 2023 John Egerton Prize by the Southern Foodways Alliance – being recognized for her work in addressing issues of race, class, and social and environmental justice through the lens of food.  

    Meeks is passionate about food and the stories it tells. She sees food as essential for connecting us to our history, communities, and health.
