    DDPG Webinar: From Roots to Heart: Exploring the Intersection of Indigenous Nutrition & CV Health

    This presentation will highlight the connections between Indigenous foodways and cardiovascular wellness. Participants will learn how cultural or Indigenous foods support heart health, examine the impacts of dietary changes on Indigenous communities, and explore culturally grounded strategies for integrating Indigenous nutrition knowledge into nutrition interventions.

    After this webinar, the attendee will be able to:

    1. Describe how traditional Indigenous foods and practices contribute to cardiovascular health and wellness.
    2. Analyze the relationship between dietary shifts in Indigenous communities and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease.
    3. Develop culturally responsive strategies that integrate Indigenous nutrition knowledge into heart-healthy interventions.

    Speaker: Denee Bex, MP, RD, CDCES 

    Denee Bex, MPH, RDN, CDCES is a Registered Dietitian from the Diné (Navajo) Nation and owner of Tumbleweed Nutrition LLC. She has worked in Native communities for over 10 years, advocating for inclusive nutrition education that embraces cultural foods and traditions. Denee is also a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and has been featured in the New York Times, The Arizona Republic, and other national outlets.

    Approval for 1.0 CPE credit by CDR is anticipated.

    This webinar is hosted by the Diabetes DPG of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This webinar is free to members of the Diabetes DPG.
